Gyeongsan
경산시 · Gyeongsangbuk-do
Gyeongsan borders Daegu to the east and works as an easy half-day add-on from the city. Its signature sight is the Gatbawi Buddha, a Unified Silla stone statue wearing a flat stone hat on the 853 m Gwanbong peak of the Palgongsan range, reached by a steep stair climb that pilgrims start before dawn.

Getting there
Easiest as a side trip from Daegu, which is on the KTX line from Seoul; Gyeongsan adjoins Daegu's eastern edge and is reachable by the Daegu metro and local buses. The Gatbawi trailhead sits up in the Palgongsan range, so plan a local bus or taxi for the last stretch.
Best season
Spring and autumn give the most comfortable conditions for the steep Gatbawi stair climb; pilgrims often start before dawn to catch sunrise from the summit.
